Fatboy Slim in Dubai: Dance FM exclusive interview

April 10, 2018

Ahead of his performance at the all-day Beach Festival at Zero Gravity in Dubai on the 27th of April, electronic music legend Fatboy Slim chatted with Katie Overy from Danny Cee’s Rude Awakening. The British DJ, musician and record producer took the Rude Awakening Fame Test, told us about his new role as a music director on an upcoming film and why he loves playing in the UAE.

Watch the interview in the video below.

This is not the first time Fatboy Slim has graced the sandy shores of the UAE – Dubai to be specific. To him, the city is a very “interesting place to visit” and he thoroughly enjoys the vibe and the crowds that gather at his shows. His favourite people at concerts are the ones who do not go out as much and then really “let their hair down” when they do. Having been to Dubai plenty of times, he has pretty much done everything a tourist could do but he will never turn down an opportunity to check out the art scene. Fatboy Slim cited his walk on JBR as a memorable one during his previous trips.

Adding to his long list of endeavours and achievements he is now a music director, or as he puts it, a “Music Consultant” for the upcoming film ‘Ibiza: The Silent Movie,’ which will be directed by music video director Julian Temple. Unknowingly, he ended up helping Katie with her daily fact hunt. Here is his  fact:

“Did you know where the name Ibiza came from? It came from Ibeza which means the island of Bes, who is the Phoenician god of dance.”

After spending 32 years on the scene, he scored quite low on the Fame Test. He has trashed a few hotel rooms back in the day, which he is not too proud of and requests air horns in his changing room (solely used during his sets, he informed us). His fans seem to love giving him ‘rave hats’ and he admitted that he is not too savvy with social media and always needs a little help to upload things.

Bag packed, Manchester here I come. Thanks to @marchingpowderco for the new hat 🙂
