Who Will Be the Next 007?
March 11, 2019
From Cillian Murphy to Idris Elba, the 007 candidate list is quite a mystery in itself! While all the men look absolutely dapper in the tux, we’re going to have to narrow it down to these guys.
The newest candidate to join the list is ‘Peaky Blinders’ star Cillian Murphy. If indeed he does get the role, he will be the second Irish to play the role, following Pierce Brosnan. However, the actor himself isn’t keen on role saying it “is not on his radar”. Hmmm…

Barbara Broccoli, the franchise’s producer once said that ‘it is time’ for a non-white actor to take on the role of James Bond. That being said, Idris Elba definitely fits the bill. Talented, handsome and magnetic! The star himself has often teased at being the next James Bond and recently joked about his James Bond casting rumors on an episode of Saturday Night Live. However, the actor has said “Bond is one of the biggest franchises in the world, and for that reason, whoever ends up playing it, lives it. You’re THAT character, and known as that character for many, many years. I’m creating characters now that can still live alongside Idris. Not ones that take over me and solely define me.”

Who remembers the April Fools’ joke where on Instagram he posted a news story with the caption “in my tux and on the runway Gtg” ? But really, was it a joke? Ex-007 Pierce Brosnan said “I think Tom Hardy could be a good Bond. I’d be happy to see him do it. You need an actor who can put a bit of wiggle into it—that’s what makes Bond,”. We agree.

He was brilliant in The Night Manager, which pretty much convinces us that he’d be an excellent bond! However, Broccoli doesn’t agree, calling the actor “too smug”. Also, would he be accepted taking on another spy character?

The Bodyguard star surely has a massive fan following and the Internet was thrilled when the Sunday fueled the story. However he maintained that while he was flattered, “The papers make up a story on a Sunday so they can discredit that story on the Monday so they can sell papers on both days,” he said. “Everyone just loves the rumor mill on that topic. I’m just the current one. There’ll be a different one next week.” So maybe, we’ll scratch him off the list. Also, he’s a little too young to play Bond, right?
