“We want to remind people why they fell in love with Whitney in the first place,” Pat Houston says.

Whitney Houston recorded her cover of the Steve Winwood 1986 hit “Higher Love” in 1990 and it was meant for her third album ‘I’m Your Baby Tonight.’ Houston was already a multi-plantinum pop star and to create a reindition of her popular cover was just what we needed.

Seven years after her death, many forthcoming projects celebrating her musical legacy are in the works. ‘Higher Love’ felt like a timely release according to her sister in law Pat Houston. Whitney’s estate actually chose Kygo to produce and remake the classic.

In Kygo’s version, he had a little bit more freedom to start from scratch in order for him to build a completely fresh new single based on a legendary performance by one of music’s most iconinc and distinguished voices.

Kygo tells Rolling Stone that he was “trying to make it sound like something that she would’ve done, but also something that’s my style.”
