UAE MAY LIFT BAN ON WHATSAPP CALLS

UAE MAY LIFT THE BAN ON WHATSAPP CALLS

November 7, 2019

And it’s going to happen soon!

In an interview with CNBC, the head of the country’s electronic security authority, Mohamed Al Kuwaiti, said that “There might be a lift of that ban… and it is going to happen soon, from what we understand from the telecommunications authority in the UAE”.

The executive director of the UAE’s National Electronic Security Authority, further added that WhatsApp understands the country’s telecoms regulations, stating “The collaboration with WhatsApp has actually increased, and in many of those (projects) we saw a very good understanding (from them) of the concept we have.”

As of now, WhatsApp, Snapchat and Skype calls are banned under the UAE’s Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) policy. VoIP apps Botim and C’Me, are both available in UAE and are paid for services offered by du and Etisalat.

However, no indication has been given as to when UAE’s National Electronic Security Authority will lift the ban. Keep a watch on this space for more updates and stay tuned to 978 Dance.
